We welcome the players, supporters and officials of St Austell to Bodieve Park on Tuesday evening.

The last time I wrote programme notes, I was bemoaning the fact we lacked character and personality against Helston.

Seven days is a long time in football and I’m thrilled to report that the lads have shown those two traits in our victories against Sticker and Falmouth.

Saturday was one of those days that keeps a manager doing this usual thankless task. I fancied us to be very competitive down there, as I expected us to be at Helston, the week before, however, the lads delivered in spades this time.

I thought at 2-0 we looked the more likely to extend our lead on the break rather than be pegged back, but two sendings off saw us have to produce a real backs to the wall performance for the last 25 minutes.

The lads ran themselves into the ground and even managed to nick one to run out 3-2 victors.

Tuesday night is another tough game against another one of the county’s big clubs. There have been plenty of changes in personnel over the summer, but having watched them once in person and having had them watched at Saltash, I’m under no illusions how tough it will be.

As I write this I’m still not settled on my starting 11. There may be changes from Saturday but that will be a reflection of the shift the lads put in. I was so impressed with the attitude of everyone on Saturday, the non playing subs all played their part in a great day. These are the type of people I want around the club. They have to get their opportunities.

Enjoy the game
