Yesterday's 1-1 draw at Morwenstow saw the 2nds extend their unbeaten run to three games, following impressive away victories at top four sides, Bude and Probus. Yesterday's performance was dogged and determined, but not to the standard of the previous games, hiowever the pitch which was 90% Bog and 10% Skating rink did not help. Morwenstow bossed the first half and The Bridgers struggled to get to grips with the pitch, or playing without a recognised striker, after Kev Cornford limped off with a tight hamstring. The home side punished one of few defensive lapses when a free header was converted from a corner. The second half saw the home side sit on the lead, playing on the break, which though effective at times, the moves were quickly snuffed out by the firm Bridgers defence. Jon May went close for Wadebridge after beating the offside, only to screw his shot wide. Soon after Damo Cudmore missed a chance shortly after coming on. Tom Wood drove over following a fine individual run at the home defence. A change to a 3-5-2 formation saw The Bridgers put the home side under sustained pressure and with less than two minutes on the clock, forced a corner. everyone went up for the cornere kick including keeper Jimmy Vernon, and it was Vernon who stepped over the ball to allow Neil Richards to drive home the equaliser for his second goal in two games.
Not one of our better displays, but with Rettsy injured, Will Daley with the first team and the conditions yesterday, it was a fairly satisfactory result.
