The second annual Christmas 5-a side was played on December 29th. keenly contested by 8 teams, consisting of players from all corners of the club. We had representatives from all three mens teams and a team of veterans from the youth coaching set up. Pool A consisted of The Nigels with first team players Olly Gibson and Will Sherill along with 2nd teamers Leighton Carhart and Steve (Lakey) Lake and also featured a star striker who cannot be named!! Dave Peck and Rob Constance assembled a fine body of men to represent the Youth Coaches and did themselves proud. The Brizzle Boys (who in the end only featured one UWE player) managed to reach the third place play off, and Team Cuds, although always competitive, failed to make the mark, much to the disappointment of Damo!
Pool A winners were The Nigels, R/Up - Brizzle Boys

Pool B was a much closer affair with The Laners featuring Ben & Dayll Beesley along with Nick Knight, Kev Cornford and Jon May (all first and second team players) Joe Knight was their keeper, Team Grills featuring Paul & Josh Grills, unfortunately lost Mark to illness (a hangover) on the morning of the event. Team Cudmore featuring Boogs, and registering at 11.00AM on the morning of the event! gained the runners up spot, only losing on goal difference to The Laners. Sweetpatch TV, featuring the evergreen Dave Witts supported by Ben Hurst, Will Daley, Tom 'Woody' Wood, and Tom Hull, looked strong on paper, but failed to hold on to leads on two occasions (and the ball was difficult for them to control...so I was told in an interview after)

The third place play off saw Team Cudmore defeat The Brizzle boys.

The Final .... The Nigels V The Laners

The first half was keenly contested with both teams scoring and the game moving from end to end with the score locked at one each. The Nigels managed to grab a lead just before half time and went in 2-1 up. The Laners seemed to crumble at the start of the second half and soon found themselves 4-1 down, but to their credit fought back to 4-3, until The Nigels made the game safe by adding two quick goals. The Laners completed the scoring in the final minute to see a final score of The Nigels 6, The Laners 4.

Thanks to James Gallagher who refereed for the whole two hours, and thanks to the players for making it an enjoyable afternoon. And not forgetting the WAG's from the Youth Coaches team, who 'Stood by their men'
