A much improved performance saw the Reserves gain their first three points of the season in a keenly contested encounter with the Clarets last night. The team battled well all over the pitch and controlled the game for most of the first half, going in 1-0 up after a visiting defender turned the ball into his own net following a fierce, cross/shot from Luke Worrell. Nick Knight had to leave the game at half time after a late challenge resulted in him recieving cracked ribs. Will Daley was introduced into the centre of midfield and Dayll Beesley (playing his first game of the season after injury) dropped back into the defence. Both were in action early in the second half, as Launceston came looking for the equaliser. Hard work and determination throughout the team ensured that the onslaught was contained, and apart from a shot that dropped onto the crossbar and a fine save from Verns, which he tipped onto a post, the vistors never looked like scoring. The Bridgers always looked dangerous on the break, and several half chances were created, before Mike Retter broke Launceston hearts when he slotted home a second goal to ease the pressure. Ben Beesley added a third soon after to make the game safe. To end a miserable night for the Clarets, they had a player dismissed for a second yellow card and finished with 10 men.
A great battling performance from The Bridgers tonight to gain a thoroughly deserved three points. With improved fitness levels and confidence the lads can start to fulfil the undoubted potential in the squad.
TEAM:- Vernon, Ferrett, Bateman, Carhart, Knight (Daley), Taylor, Cornford K (Ahearn), Beesley B (Feasey), Beesley D, Worrell, Retter.
