Match Report
Report courtesy of Kevin Marriott from South West Sports News
Wadebridge Town soared to fourth in the Peninsula Premier West table with a rip-roaring away performance which left in-form Liskeard stunned.
In a feisty affair which bubbled just under the surface of boiling point, the Bridgers were strong all over the pitch, defending with determination, biting in midfield, and producing some breathtaking finishing.
Liskeard, beaten only once this season, could have gone equal on points with leaders Mousehole but looked uncharacteristically shaky at the back.
Their problems started in the second minute when Kieran Rowe, who emerged as the game’s best player, took advantage of some sloppy defending to sweep the visitors ahead.
Liskeard responded strongly, with James Lorenz running onto Jarrad Woods’ defence-splitting pass to notch his 22nd goal of the season in the 10th minute.
Two minutes later the Blues were ahead when Thomas Cleveland got the final touch to Woods’ corner after Dylan Peel had headed the ball towards goal.
Any thoughts the home side would run away with the game were dashed five minutes later when a superb passing move ended with Kyle Flew equalising with a stunning finish.
Four goals in the opening 17 minutes set up an end-to-end match which had the feel of a cup tie and the players were so committed six yellow cards were brandished before half-time.
HT: Liskeard 2 – 2 Bridgers
Liskeard felt they should have had a penalty four minutes into the second half when Lorenz was sent tumbling but the referee, who was well placed, waved play on.
Rowe came close after a mazy run finished with a left foot shot which flew inches wide and the Bridgers weren’t to be denied, as Jacob Smale fired them ahead in the 68th minute with another quality finish.
Eight minutes later it was 4-2 when Lewis Webber produced a clever near post flick to finish off a sweeping move along the right.
Substitute Callum Brown reduced the arrears in the last minute but there was no time for any more drama and Wadebridge celebrated with gusto at the final whistle.
