“Absolutely delighted with the first half performance, some of the passing movements were superb.

 

I was surprised at the intensity we played with, That level would give any team in the league problems.

 

Unfortunately we couldn’t maintain that tempo or quality in the second half. That’s probably a reflection of where we are physically currently.

 

We will come on for the game for sure and I’m looking forward to seeing where we are at against a very good St Austell side on Friday.”

The Bridgers opened their league season with a five star 1st half, going into the break 5-0 up. In truth it could have been more, but some wayward shooting and good saves from the Saints keeper meant that the Bridgers had to wait until the 28th minute to open the scoring.

It came after a Saints player had been injured and on resumption of play a quickly taken restart found unmarked Matt Lloyd having the easy task to lob the keeper.

4 goals in 4 minutes left the visitors in shock as first Matt Lloyd netted his 2nd on 36 mins and from the restart the Bridgers raced down to the Saints area and there was Jacob Smale to net on 37 mins, and this was quickly followed by Lewis Webber smashing home on 38 mins.

Matt Lloyd then netted his hat trick goal on 40 mins, the Bridgers were now in cruise control.

HT: 5-0

As often the case, when a team is so far ahead, the second half did not live up to the first, but this gave Paul Rowe the chance to ‘blood’ a couple of youngsters into 1st team football.

The visitors, to their credit, tried to make a game of it, pulled a goal back on 71 mins when Owen Rosevear netted his first senior goal.

The Bridgers did have chances to increase their lead, but it was the Saints who got a 2nd goal in second half injury time when Mikey Davies scored with a penalty.
