We welcome the players, staff and supporters of St Austell to Bodieve Park for this exciting FA Vase encounter on Saturday.

It’s fair to say, last week was one to forget. Outplayed and more alarmingly out worked by Launceston then Falmouth has taken the wind out of what was a cracking start.

Performances have been disappointing across the board and I include myself in that.

I’ve been a little disorganised, indecisive and made some poor choices both during and around matches.

My information has not been as clear as it could and in trying to find solutions, probably muddied waters a little too. I guess us managers are like players if we are honest with ourselves, sometimes we have better weeks than others, it’s how we react.

I felt a bit sorry for myself on Saturday night, and Ruth will probably testify, most of Sunday, but I’ve dusted myself down, ready to come out fighting and I get the feeling the players have too.

Let’s see if we can’t get to the next round of the Vase and get our season back on track.

St Austell will be another tough test. They are probably a case study of a team that have come out of a sticky spell and got back to something like themselves. I speak to their manager Mark Smith regularly. I believe our overarching philosophies are similar although our teams go about it in slightly different ways.

In preparation for our matches we’ve increased the use of our VEO technology this season, Dave Witts has been putting in some great work to highlight some key areas for development.

We’ve now opened up individual channels for direct player to coach feedback. I’d still like more from the lads, but we are heading in the right direction with this for sure.

You can’t get them off the VEO when they score a worldie!!

I’m also delighted to welcome 5 new players into the squad as we look to strengthen:

  1. Jake Cribb
  2. Blaine Walton
  3. Bryn Sturdy
  4. Dayll Beesley
  5. Leighton Carhart

Enjoy the game everyone. A tie at home to Newquay awaits the winner!!
