We welcome the players, staff and supporters of Helston to Bodieve Park on Saturday in the 1st round of the Cornwall Senior Cup.
Because of programme deadline I’m writing this less than 12 hours after our narrow 2-1 defeat to Newquay.
As I sit here, I’m not entirely sure how we are going to put a side together for this one but I’m sure come Saturday afternoon we will be ready.
Going 3 wins from the first 3 in the league seems a long time ago, we lost skipper Tom Strike at Camelford that night and we’ve become more and more depleted since.
7 players that started that game were unavailable to start last night and it’s a huge testament to those that have come in, that we are largely competitive in our matches.
Indeed out of adversity comes positives. Ross Beare after Covid appears to be getting his physical levels back. We’ve given debuts to Leighton Carhart and Ewan Reeves who impressed last night.
Blaine Walton, who didn’t feature last night due to FA Youth Cup commitments, has come in and done well.
A special mention too, to Ben Williams who has taken a little time away from the game. Ben feels well enough to rejoin the group at this stage and seeing him out there last night has taken some of the pain away from the defeat.
We also miss Fin Ellacott and Sam Wickins on Saturday as they are off doing exams which will go towards their anticipated scholarships in the USA next year. Points mean dollars lads!! Good luck .
The ever presents continue to impress. Rob Rosevear is in terrific form, Lloydy banging in the goals and Kyle Flew, continues to show his quality and sets the benchmark for our work rate.
Helston will clearly be a big test. They’ve adapted well to the Western League and have a great balance of youth and experience.
I take heart from our previous Senior Cup meeting here in my time as manager, an extra time 2-1 win.
Nobody gave us a chance that day either…
Enjoy the game.
