Check out the Gaffer’s thoughts as we welcome the players, staff and supporters of Godolphin Atlantic to Bodieve Park on Saturday.
We are looking to bounce back after a really difficult day on Boxing Day against Bodmin.
We never really got going. I’ve watched the game back a couple of times and whilst I can identify some things that may have improved matters, I’m still struggling to find the answer as to why we were so flat in such a key game
Today provides an opportunity to put things right for all of us. We had hoped to play last Saturday but the bad weather put pay to that.
Godolphin has a number of ex-Bridgers’ in their squad including Manager Adam Paterson and more recently Callum Bertrand.
For us we have a few Covid doubts, being out of an isolation period doesn’t always equate to being well enough to play but unless we have further outbreaks we have enough depth to be really competitive.
Covid adds an extra layer of consideration as a manager. Sometimes you only find out what a player, post infection, has in the tank, once they play in a match. Some are over it in days, other members of the group have taken several weeks to feel right.
Some promising news re Skipper Tom Strike, knee op was a success and he’s targeting a return in February . It’s been fantastic to have him in the changing rooms supporting the lads but seeing him putting his boots on will give the boys the biggest lift of the lot.
I’d like to wish all our supporters a happy new year. Attendances in local non league football have been fantastic, I think having no option but to watch football on TV during lockdown has made people really appreciate the live stuff on their doorsteps, pleased that this has been reflected in our own crowds at Bodieve.
My intention for 2022 is to create a team that becomes really competitive, more consistent and in turn get even more coming along to watch.
