Check out the Gaffer’s thoughts as we welcome the players, staff and supporters of Liskeard to Bodieve Park on Saturday.
It’s hard to know how to feel currently, I’ve been generally pleased with performances of late. However conceding a very late equaliser against St Blazey we followed that up with a solid performance in a goalless draw v Launceston.
Ironically the best of our recent form came in our 3-0 defeat at Wendron. Some nice displays and a far cry from our performances in February, but ultimately just two points to show for them.
I feel defensively we are tightening up, it’s our main focus. This division sees plenty of goals but we are conceding them at almost 2.5 a game and you don’t have to be a genius to know you won’t win enough football matches if that doesn’t change.
I thought we were a little hard done by at Wendron and on reviewing the footage I saw very little to improve my mood.
You can prepare all you like, but sometimes you have to try to accept some things will be out of your hands. I’m still trying!!
Credit to Wendron though, in our two games they have been clinical.
Today will be a real test of our defensive credentials. Liskeard won’t win the league but can take great credit for taking the title this deep into the season considering how dominant Falmouth have been. I’m not sure how promotion will work but if Liskeard are still in the SWPL next season, they will be the team to beat
As for us, we’ve lost one more game than we’ve won up to this point. On the face of it, you would say we are quite some way off competing, I’m not so sure.
I think if we can improve on the way we go about things in the coming months I think we can bridge the gap between where we are and where we all want to be.
Enjoy the game everyone
