The Gaffer’s Reflections

With several players unavailable and not being together for 19 days, we thought we may need to grow into the game, however going two goals down early wasn’t the plan.

The goal that got us back into it was as good as any we have scored this season and we went on from there.

9 points out of 9 since the merger collapse, shows some proper character and resilience from the boys.

Wednesday 22nd March.

SWPL Premier Division West.

Wadebridge Town 4-2 Newquay.

HT: 2-2, Att: 144.

The Bridgers launched a stunning comeback after finding themselves 2-0 down after only 10 mins to secure a top four finish in the league table.

Former Bridger, Jack Rapsey opened the scoring after 7 mins when he pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area to open the scoring for Newquay and on 10 mins he secured his second, sliding in a Brad Leivers cross.

The Bridgers fought their way back into the contest. It came as no surprise when Jacob Rowe pulled one back on 28 mins with a fantastic turn and shot, the best goal of the game. And on 43 mins, Jacob Smale hit his 19th goal of the season to level the contest.

HT: 2-2

The second half was much the same, and the turnaround was completed in the 63rd minute, when Jacob Rowe hit his second of evening to put the Bridgers 3-2 up.

The icing on the cake came in the 86th minute, when Jack Bowyer hit the Bridgers 4th of the evening which secured their 19th win of the season.
