The Gaffer’s Reflections

A strange game, in that we took an early lead, created any amount of good chances afterwards, yet found ourselves 2-1 down.
Without ever recreating the performance levels of the first half, we managed to find a way to win.

Nice to be able to give 3 teenagers a run towards the end too.

An end to the season none of us anticipated.

We had a goal and we were either going to be be good enough or not. That’s the essence of sport, you don’t envisage other factors playing a part.

Having achieved our aims and yet not getting the reward has been tough to deal with.

Over the season, we spoke a lot about just focusing on the things we can control. We knew what we had to do to finish top 4.

The targets we set around goals scored, goals conceded and total points were met. That’s us achieving what we set out to do and that should be celebrated. I’ve had to remind myself and then, in turn, the lads of this.

What I’m already getting the feel for is that this has galvanised the boys and we are ready for a proper go next year.

I’ve spoken to them individually and as a group and there is a willingness to use this as a platform to kick on.

Planning for next season is already underway and I can’t wait to get going again.
