Check out the Gaffer’s Thoughts as we welcome the players, staff and supporters of Truro City Reserves to Bodieve Park.
We return to League action after a comfortable 5-1 win over Cheddar in the Vase.
I challenged the lads to be more clinical, we had won our previous 3 matches but haven’t managed to put any of them to bed, as quickly as our possession suggested we may have.
I explained that being clinical isn’t just about burying chances, it’s the weight of pass on the key through ball, it’s the correct decisions when you have overloads, it’s making staggered runs into the box to meet crosses.
We met up in the morning of the game, for a light piece of shadow play and it was delightful to see a pattern we had been working on, lead to a goal.
Billy Hopcroft has joined us on a permanent basis and has bagged 5 goals in two games. I’ve been impressed with the Adaptability of Kyle Flew who has been asked to drop a little deeper, but is still carrying a real threat.
Truro will be a tough test. As you would expect from a reserve side, they have a lot of promising youngsters. The likes of Rhys Simmonds and Liam Higgins, two of their youngest players, will go on to play at a higher level for sure.
We will have to match their energy, once again we’ve needed competitive matches to start to reach our fitness levels which frustrates me every season.
I think the league will be the most open it’s been in years.
Any team that can go on a 10-12 game unbeaten run, will be right in the mix come end up.
Let’s hope we can extend our winning run to 5 today
Enjoy the game
