Check out the Gaffer’s Thoughts as we welcome the players, staff and supporters of Bodmin Town to Bodieve Park in the FA Vase.
When the draw for the FA Vase is made, the vast majority of teams, ourselves included, want a nice away trip, to a ground you haven’t visited before. A home game is usually met with a groan
On this occasion however, the name of Bodmin came out of the hat, and knowing we could set up a local derby if we got past Cheddar, provided great motivation.
The Camelford derby has more of a local feel to it nowadays, but Wadebridge v Bodmin is the traditional, historical rivalry in these parts. To play each other in the vase, adds extra spice.
We have had the upper hand on these matches of late but Bodmin will arrive with plenty of hope, due to their revival under latest boss Simon Minett.
Simon was here in our management staff before leaving for our near neighbours. He will be aware of some of our secrets, but not all of them!!
Today will see the return of some ex players.
Tom Crowe, Brynn Sturdy, James Baker and Tom Machlachlan were all top Bridgers during my time as manager.
For us, Sam Hepworth has moved on to Western League Torpoint. Sam has been quality for us in his year here and we wish him well at step 5
Morgan Vallejo could feature, we have missed his craft at times this season while he has recovered from an ankle injury.
Tom Savigar remains out but we are encouraged by his recovery from a fractured collar bone, he won’t be long now.
It’s been a long time since we progressed beyond the qualifying rounds of the Vase. Let’s hope we can make it happen this weekend
Enjoy the game
