Check out the Gaffer’s Thoughts as we welcome the players, staff and supporters of Wendron United to Bodieve Park.
It’s unusual to play both home and away ties against a team in the first two months of a season, but we are facing Wendron again already, following our heavy defeat on the first day of the season
The 20 minute spell where we conceded six, was one of the most surreal experiences I’ve had in the game, horrific!!
It highlighted some shortcomings and promoted a change of playing style which I’d not had the courage to implement before this forced my hand.
We are very much ‘work in progress’ as evidenced by the lack of consistency in our results, but I do feel we are going in the right direction.
We are all learning and trying something new, has certainly invigorated me and challenged the players.
We had a brilliant spell of 25 minutes midweek against St Day, where it all came together, the lads really brought it to life, scoring 4 in that period.
We couldn’t maintain it beyond that and I think that’s where the next step forwards lies, being very good for longer periods. I have confidence that we have the ability and more importantly, the will in the dressing room to kick on and really improve
Being patient with each other will be key to this.
Some squad news, Haiden Chapman has returned to sticker. Haiden has such a bright future and is a terrific lad. He had an injury and suspension this season and was always playing catch up. Starting most weeks is probably best for him right now . He will be playing step 5 in the not too distant future for sure.
We are probably as low numbers wise, as I would like and will be trying to add to the squad.
Enjoy the game everyone
