Check out the Gaffer’s thoughts as we welcome the players, staff and supporters of Wendron United to Bodieve Park on Saturday.
Two games in and there is a lot to be positive about
Of course we would have liked to have come away from St Blazey with something to show for our efforts but we came up a little short in possession on the night.
However I can’t fault the application of the lads, who threw everything at it.
We went down there with no fewer than 9 players unavailable for a variety of reasons
Some positives from that, is that we were able to give Brad Rowe his first competitive start and he was outstanding on the night. Also Jago Durstan another promising youngster got some minutes towards the end.
Having won our opening game against St Dennis which a measured passing performance, it sets todays game against a very good Wendron side up nicely.
Last season ‘The Dron’ were really clinical against us in our two encounters, there was very little to choose between the two sides until the business end of the pitch. We are creating chances and probably need a higher ratio of them to hit the net if we are to accomplish our ambitions this season. I’m sure that’s just a matter of time.
A mixture of our passing game against st Dennis and intensity v St Blazey would give us a good chance today, we just need to put it all together.
Today also marks the first match for our Second Team.
It’s vital that a club like ours has at least two mens sides.
Dave and Arnie have done brilliantly to be in a position where we can relaunch and whilst nobody is under any illusions that there will be tough moments to go along with the successes early on, the fact that there is a platform for young promising players to develop us an exciting one.
Finally, today marks the last game for Sam Wickins before he departs for the USA on a soccer scholarship
Sam has been nothing short of sensational for us since making his debut shorty after his 16th birthday. It’s so rare that a kid of that age commands as much respect in the changing room as Sam has, that’s a testament to the lovely, humble lad he is. Our loss is America’s gain.
Go well lad.
Enjoy the game everyone
